remote psychoeducational assessments

Remote assessments are conducted online using a video conferencing platform. Digital assessment materials and paper test booklets are used, and children work in a quiet, distraction-free environment. An on-site adult, often a teacher or parent, provides supervision. Children eight years or older can typically complete a remote assessment.

When to choose a remote assessment

Remote assessments may be suitable when families live in rural or remote locations, live overseas, and/or have children completing a homeschool program.

Remote assessments may be useful for:

  • Investigating cognitive/intellectual and processing strengths and weaknesses
  • Investigating suspected learning difficulties or identifying Specific Learning Disorders in reading, writing, or mathematics (i.e., dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia)
  • Examining mild to moderate difficulties with attention or executive functioning
  • Providing updated information for educational programming and support
  • Providing updated information prior to taking external exams (e.g., SAT, IBDP), to fulfill exam board requirements

types of assessments

Assessments are unique to the needs of the child and school. An assessment may include any of the following:

  • Interviews with parents, teachers, and child
  • Review of educational records
  • Cognitive/intellectual assessments (e.g., WISC-V, WISC-V A&NZ)
  • Processing assessments (e.g., TOMAL-2, CTOPP-2)
  • Academic/achievement assessments (e.g., KTEA-3, WIAT-4, WIAT-III A&NZ, EVT-3, PPVT-5)
  • Behavior rating scales (e.g., BASC-3, BRIEF-2, Conners, ABAS)
  • Feedback sessions with parents and teachers
  • Support with development of IEPs or learning support plans
